Gay pride parades: noun. That thing you go to to see men dressed in women’s clothing, wings, and flamboyant little boys running around in short shorts, and then the people that go to this event expect equality. Hahaha. Right. Because that shows straight people that we’re JUST LIKE THEM and deserve equal treatment, right?!
I don’t agree with them, I never have. What we should have, is Proud-to-be-who-you-are parades, one in which EVERYONE is invited to come and BE THEMSELVES, not some fairyland full of man princesses wearing tiaras. One that invites everybody to be a part of it, one that doesn’t single us out as the only ones to have “pride” for their orientation.
Again, which you shouldn’t have pride for. I’m not proud to be gay. You shouldn’t be proud to be gay. One shouldn’t be proud to be gay or straight, because they just make up who you are. It’s like saying I’m proud to have brown hair. It’s just a part of me, I was born that way, so what is there to be proud of? What you should be proud of is how you carry that self of yours, whether gay or straight, and how you treat others.
I’m proud that I treat others with respect.
I’m proud that I don’t judge based on race, gender, orientation, anything whatsoever.
I’m proud that I’ve come out and accepted myself and who I am now, and I’m glad that I have people behind me supporting me every step of the way.
But proud to be gay? Nahhh.
Just accept yourself and accept others, and you’ll find that pride within yourself.
